S-Curve Blade is a concept fan blade. It was inspired by Rolls Royce CEO during Asian Aerospace 98 after he suggests I should incorporate his S-curve blade on Rolls Royce Trent 700 into my design (http://bit.ly/15uDuUr). It never goes beyond my sketches until now.
How it will look like in a casing
This blade wouldn't be any fun if concept is fictional. I show it to my lecturer, Eddie, for proof of concept. He think it might work but it is better to do a CFD (Computational fluid dynamics) first. Back in 1998, it is very difficult to draw such design on a PC and get it simulate in CFD, so it is never verify.
Eddie highlighted that if one day fibre glass price will drop close to Aluminium, we might see the blades replaced by carbon fibre. At least we get a glimpse of it before that day arrives. (most bottom image).
Dr Eddie (now Prof) is my final year Fluid and Aircraft Propulsion Lecturer in NTU. We shared the same hobby, that's aviation and do out of topic aerial research. He was a researcher working on Roll Royce before then-PM Goh Chok Tong invited him back to Singapore to teach in NTU.
Update on 27/4/2013
The last couple of days I did a slight modification by moving the stub forward and inline with center of gravity.
