Single Cell Battery
This is a lightweight lithium ion car battery. Used mainly on luxury or sport cars.

Saw this challenge (GrabCAD) on 1st May. The closing date is 6th May. I was working on another challenge, so I didn't start till 3rd May.

The challenge called for 2 designs: single and duo cells. After careful study for more than a day, I come out a few design sketches. I finally decided to design a single modular cell. 2 reasons: I am running out of time and it is more cost efficient.

Design Intent
1) The reason why I chose a honeycomb design is it symbolize lightweight, hi-tech and cells; so it is easier to convey the message 'lightweight' and hi-tech to a consumer.
2) 24k gold plated contact points are for 2 purposes. First is to make it look expensive and second is to prevent oxidation. It doesn't cost a lot to plated but the result is stunning.
3) The locks must be simple and fool proof. We don't need a PhD to secure it. Must be as easy as Lego blocks.

I wasn't able to finish the project, so I hand in what I have done (as shown here).

This article is also post on Behance.

Update
I didn't win the contest nor get a mention for this design. But I do get some feedback and some woo wow from its competitors in US, China and Japan after I release these photos on the web. Maybe we really should rethink how battery should look ^_^

On the left is the bottom of the battery in upright position. On the right is 2 batteries stacked to form a duo cell.
